Summertime heatwave hit us quickly this year, although it’s currently freezing cold in June. However, that gave me an idea to make these Greek Yogurt popsicles for our baby. These popsicles are so easy to make and only require 2 ingredients. Yes, TWO!

The ingredients

  • Greek yogurt. I recommend using full-fat plain yogurt
  • Fruits. I use cherries in this recipe; however, you can use other fruits

Fruits for popsicles

Making fruit popsicles for babies is fun and it’s one of my ways to introduce fruits, too. Besides cherries, you can add any kinds of berries, banana with cocoa powder, banana with creamy peanut butter, or mango puree. The flavor combination is endless!

How to make Greek yogurt popsicles

  • Wash the fruits you’ll be using, pat them dry, and remove all the seeds
  • Chop the fruits in large chunks
  • Add both Greek yogurt and fruits to a food processor. Combine well until nearly liquified into a smoothie-like consistency
  • Pour into popsicles mold and freeze in the freezer overnight

Utensil to make Greek yogurt popsicles

You will need popsicle molds and a food processor. In case you don’t own a food processor, you can crush the fruits in batches; then use a food strainer to get all the juice/liquid and mix it with Greek yogurt.

Can I use sweetener

I don’t recommend adding sweetener, honey, or agave syrup to these popsicles; hence, the baby will get the flavors from fresh fruits only.

Homemade chimichurri sauce meets a grilled steak recipe is a match made in heaven, arguably one of the best meals for babies!

We love chimichurri sauce and always have it handy most of the time so when it comes to baby, I’m not hesitant to give him a try.

What is chimichurri sauce?

Originally from Argentina, this sauce has a combination of parsley, oregano, garlic, red wine vinegar and olive oil. Super easy to make and will level up your grilled steak. However, I made a little tweak to this chimichurri sauce for babies.

The ingredients for chimichurri sauce

  • Herbs. I use a combination of parsley, cilantro, and garlic. Be sure to use fresh herb when making sauces
  • Condiments. I use olive oil, lemon juice, and a splash of red wine vinegar

Grilled steak for babies

Our baby was 8 months when I first introduced him to steak and he just could not stop sucking on it. Steak actually makes great first food for babies because it offers a great amount of nutrition; however, you need to prepare it in an age-appropriate way since steak is one of the more common causes of choking.

6-8 months baby: cut the steak about the size and length of two adult fingers together and cook it well-done.

Add some colorful grilled vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, or fruits.

Apples for Baby-Led Weaning

Baby-led weaning is an exciting concept that mothers all around the globe are now implementing with their children. This form of weaning allows the baby to self-feed from the very beginning, in the form of solids, totally skipping the pureed food stage.

Look through any popular baby-led weaning resource you can, and you’ll most certainly find apples topping the list as food to begin with. But how exactly do you do it? Keep reading to find out just that and loads more.

When Can I Start to Introduce Apples to My Baby?

Apples are one of the healthiest foods, and whether you’re practicing baby-led weaning or not, they can actually be one of the best first foods for your baby. You can start introducing apple puree to your baby as he completes 6 months of age, or consider softening the apples and preparing them for your BLW baby.

How Do I Start Introducing Apples to My Baby?

Confused about how to begin introducing apples to your baby? Here are a few tips and tricks to get you started.

  • If you’re not keen on practicing baby-led weaning, you can soften or boil the apples and puree them and offer them to your baby. Apples are chock full of nutrients and vitamins, which makes them an excellent choice to begin with.
  • To offer it to your baby as a part of the baby-led weaning process, you can first cube it or cut it into sticks and then boil and soften it.
  • Not sure how to cook apples for baby-led weaning? You can either grate them and offer them on a self-feeding spoon or steam them until they are super tender, yet firm enough to be held by your baby.
  • It is not a good idea to opt for raw apples for babies. This is because apples are hard, and might present a choking hazard, especially for younger babies.

Ideally, it is a great idea to start with one food (apple in this case) for a couple of days, and let your baby experience it completely in different textures and forms, without any other additive. This will help your baby accept foods in their original form, and you’ll be less likely to raise a picky eater. If you must, you can also sprinkle a bit of cinnamon powder before you serve it.

Also, remember to always pick organic apples for your babies, since they are on EWG’s Dirty Dozen list, which means they are more likely to contain higher amounts of pesticides.

Benefits of Boiled Apples for Babies

There are tons of benefits of boiled apples for babies.

  • They are high in fiber, which makes them easier to digest. This can be extremely helpful for babies who tend to get constipated.
  • They have a good amount of vitamin C, which has been found to boost immunity and improve eye, skin, and brain health.
  • Apples are also a rich source of antioxidants, which help fight the free radicals in the body.
  • They contain impressive amounts of metal boron, which helps support brain function and improves bone health.

Safety Guide for Cooking with Children

Safety Guide for Cooking with Children

As long as the kitchen environment remains safe, cooking with children can be an experience filled with learning, experimenting, and sharing.

The benefits of cooking with children are endless. Not only is this a great way to teach kids valuable life skills, but it also gives families the perfect excuse to spend plenty of quality time together. But the kitchen can be a danger zone for youngsters if precautions are not taken to reduce hazards. Here are some basic safety tips to keep kids in the kitchen safe from falls, burns, and other injuries.

Keep Kitchen Supplies Where Children Can Reach Them

When kids do things for themselves, it builds their confidence and fosters independence. For this reason, all of the kitchen supplies needed to carry out cooking activities with youngsters should be in a place where kids can reach them on their own.

When cooking utensils and ingredients for recipes are stored on a low shelf, drawer, or child-sized table, it keeps kids from climbing on countertops and chairs to get what they need and reduces the likelihood of dangerous falls.

Clean Up Spills in the Kitchen Immediately

When children cook in the kitchen, spills will happen from time to time. And it’s tempting to wait until later to clean them up. But with the distraction of dealing with young kids, a parent may forget about the spill altogether, and youngsters can accidentally slip and fall. So to prevent serious injuries from falls, clean up spills as soon as they happen.

Keep Sharp Kitchen Utensils Away From Kids

Never allow young children to handle sharp kitchen utensils such as knives. So unless foods are soft enough to cut with a plastic knife, all of the cutting and slicing should be done by an adult. And once parents are finished using sharp kitchen utensils, store them out of the reach of children.

Lock All Household Chemicals Away

Kitchen counters and cabinets are common places to store household chemicals. But if there are small children in the home, chemicals should be out of reach. According to Safe Kids USA, 91,000 kids under the age of 14 are treated in emergency rooms yearly because of accidental poisonings; and 80 percent of these are in children under the age of four.

Young children absorb chemicals in the bloodstream faster than adults, so ingesting even a small amount of a toxic substance can send them straight to the emergency room. To prevent this from happening, lock all household chemicals away.

Secure Kitchen Appliances

Food processors and blenders contain sharp blades that can sever a small child’s hand. So unplug these appliances, and store them out of reach when kids are in the kitchen. Also, position cords on appliances so they don’t dangle from countertops.

Burns from hot liquids and steam are the most common type of burn-related injury in youngsters, so turn pot handles to the back of the stove to keep children from pulling them down.

Cleaning up spills, keeping kitchen supplies within reach, locking away chemicals, keeping sharp utensils out of reach, turning pot handles to the back of the stove, and securing dangerous kitchen appliances will minimize hazards and keep the experience of cooking with kids fun.
